The XXVII International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics of the University of Urbino will focus on a crucial topic of research in physics and philosophy: Dark Energy.
The Summer School will be held in Urbino from June 3rd to June 7th 2024.
The school will feature in-depth lectures on the physics, philosophy, and conceptual foundations of Dark Energy and its relations to cosmology, epistemology, and metaphysics. This year's speakers are Erik Curiel (University of Bonn), Viatcheslav Mukhanov (LMU Munich), Vera Matarese (University of Perugia), Juliusz Doboszewski (University of Bonn).
The Inter-University Center for Philosophy and Foundations of Physics, the University of Urbino "Carlo Bo", Department of Pure and Applied Sciences, and the Italian Society for Logic and Philosophy of Science, are happy to announce the XXIX International Philosophy of Physics Summer School: History and Philosophy of the Wave Function
The XXIX International Philosophy of Physics Summer School of the University of Urbino: History and Philosophy of the Wave Function addresses a crucial topic at the intersection of physics and philosophy: the epistemological and ontological status of the wave function.
The School will explore both the physical and conceptual dimensions of one of the central entities of quantum theory. The sessions will examine the mathematical role of the wave function, its historical development within quantum mechanics, and contemporary philosophical debates concerning its interpretation and ontology.
This year’s edition is part of the broader celebrations marking the centenary of the birth of quantum mechanics, hosted across various European institutions, and aims to offer an original contribution to this collective reflection on the genesis and meaning of the theory.

The XXVIII International Summer School in Philosophy of Physics of the University of Urbino Epistemology of Quantum Gravity addresses a pivotal issue at the intersection of physics and philosophy: the epistemological status of quantum gravity theories. A fundamental challenge confronts all approaches to quantum gravity: how can we construct a theory in the absence of experimental evidence and, consequently, without the empirical guidance that typically shapes scientific progress? This raises deeper epistemic questions: if it is possible to formulate such a theory despite the lack of empirical data, how do we evaluate the progress of the various quantum gravity approaches? Are they advancing toward a coherent understanding of the quantum nature of spacetime, or are they merely engaging in speculative theorizing, adrift without the anchor of observable phenomena? The school will delve into whether theoretical advancement in quantum gravity are constrained by epistemological limitations or driven by creative, but potentially ungrounded, speculation.
